Holy Week is a must-see event for discovering the essence of Santiago, recognized as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia since 2018. The Galician capital, which kicked off this religious tradition on March 27, will feature processions and cultural events through April 12. Here are all the details:
PROCESSIONS
April 1. Holy Wednesday.
The Procession of Humility will depart at 9:30 p.m. from the Church of Santa María do Camiño and will be accompanied by the Ribadaumia Municipal Band.
April 2. Holy Thursday.
The Procession of the Last Supper of the Savior will begin at 7:30 p.m. from the Church of San Francisco. The Vera Cruz musical group and the Santiago Municipal Band will perform along the route.
The Procession of the Flagellated Christ will depart at 11:30 p.m. from the Church of San Agustín, accompanied by the Confraternity’s drum and bugle corps.
April 3. Good Friday.
The Sermon and Procession of the Holy Encounter will take place at 11 a.m. in Plaza de la Quintana, accompanied by music from the Brotherhood’s drum, bugle, and bagpipe band.
The Procession of the Fifth Sorrow will begin its route at 6 p.m. from the Chapel of the Sorrow, with musical accompaniment provided by the Brotherhood’s Drum and Bugle Corps and the Ribadumia Municipal Band.
The Procession of the Holy Burial will set out at 8 p.m. from the Church of San Domingos de Bonaval. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the Confraternity of Noso Pai Xesús Nazareno’s Drum, Bugle, and Bagpipe Band, the Santiago Municipal Band, and the Cardeal Quiroga Choir.
The Procession of Soledad will conclude the day at 11 p.m., departing from the Church of Santa María Salomé, with the Drum Band of the Confraternity of Quinta Angustia and the Crecente Choir accompanying the procession.
April 4. Holy Saturday.
The Procession of the Holy Christ of the Anointing and Our Lady of Serenity will begin at 8:00 p.m. from the Colegio de la Inmaculada, with music provided by the Brilat Military Band, the Vera Cruz Music Section, and the Santiago Municipal Band.
April 5. Easter Sunday.
The Procession of the Risen Christ will depart at 10:30 a.m. from the Church of San Francisco. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the Vera Cruz Music Section and the Virgen del Carmen Music Group of Ferrol.
April 12. White Sunday
The closing ceremony will feature the transfer of the Santísimo Cristo de la Paciencia at 11 a.m. from the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The music will be provided by the Brotherhood’s drum band and the Conxo Traditional Music and Dance Group.
In case of rain, a prayer service will be held indoors at the same locations where the religious processions are scheduled to depart, with the exception of the Procession of the Flagellated Christ, which will proceed regardless of the weather forecast; the Sermón do Encontro, which would take place inside the Church of San Miguel Dos Agros; and the Transfer of the Santísimo Cristo de la Paciencia, which would be suspended.

CULTURE
De Lugares e Órganos is a series of free concerts taking place in conjunction with Catholic celebrations from March 28 to April 5 at various locations throughout the city. It offers an opportunity to explore the organ heritage and musical history of Compostela from the Renaissance to the Classical period.
